What you can do

The proposed probation super-centre is clearly a great concern for all local residents. So, what can you do to help defeat this proposal?

1. Make Contact with us

Make contact this WOCAMP at newosney@googlemail.com and voice your concerns. Or come along to the next open meeting at the railway club.

2. Sign the petition

We have a petition in the Westgate Stores  and various local shops – please sign up and ask your friends and neighbours to sign up.

Or sign the online petition here!

3. Make a donation

Make a donation to help fund our campaign. Please contact Sarah Shekleton via newosney@googlemail.com and she will tell you how you can do this. Please contribute.

4. Write to our MP

It is also important to make our protests public. This is not just about our own quality of life – it is about the folly of locating an operational probation super-centre in a residential neighbourhood. Our local MP has been very supportive, but the more messages he receives, the more help he can provide.

Here is a template letter you could send to our Dr Evan Harris, MP. It would be even more effective if you rewrite it in your own words.

The address to send it to is:

Dr Evan Harris, MP (Oxford West and Abingdon): HARRISE@parliament.uk

or

Jack Straw (Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor): general.queries@justice.gsi.gov.uk

David Cameron: camerond@parliament.uk

5. Write to our councillors

Similarly you could write to our local councillors who have been very supportive, but the more messages they receive, the the stronger the case they can make on our behalf.

Susanna Pressel: cllrspressel@oxford.gov.uk

Colin Cook: cllrccook@oxford.gov.uk

6. Write to the papers

Letters to the editor of local Oxford and national newspapers will also help. Here is a list of the "10 Reasons Why this is a Bad Idea"  which would be a good starting point for any communications.

7. Put up a protest sign

Finally, there have already been many signs placed in windows and on telegraph poles – the more signs that are put up, the more visible our protest will be. You can download a poster to print out here or if you want a paper copy of the signs emailing the steering group at newosney@googlemail.com.

Many thanks to everyone for their support.  There will be a further meetings at the Railway Club advertised on the news page.

Together we can make a difference.
